Can I Download And Install A Realtek Audio Driver Onto A Sound Card That Previously Had A Conexant Driver?

My boyfriend is having trouble with his laptop’s sound, and apparently his sound card, (The Conexant ac-link audio) tends to have trouble. I recently heard that a chip using conexant can also support realtek audio, (namely the Realtek AC97 audio driver) and I was wondering…
…Is this true? If so, how would I go about changing the driver from conexant to realtek? Thanks for your help in advance.

Yes, it is used mostly by HP, and Compaq.
Go to HP website and then to downloads. once you chose audio drivers you’ll see the Realtek drivers on the list.

He may have an improper driver or there could be driver conflicts among devices. To make sure all of his drivers are correctly installed you could try scanning with an automatic driver update utility. Go to http://www.pcdriverupdate.com and get the free scan. It’s possible it will find multiple things needing updates. That is what I use, it’s fast and thorough.
    I hope it helps!
