Here’s a fun and tricky one for you fellow geeks:
My boss has a Gateway laptop running Vista. It was infected by 5 different viruses. I did a full reinstall. No more viruses and a cleared out fast running OS…I know vista sucks but follow me on this for now.
The only other issue he has with the laptop is that you have plug the AC power in a weird way. The port on the motherboard is damaged and you have to plug it in on an angle for it to power up.
I posted the following on Technet a few weeks ago with no answer as of yet.
“About a week ago, I reformatted Windows and reinstalled Vista Home. The network; both the wireless and local was working fine until yesterday. I’m getting limited access on the ethernet card. 169 IP address. Cant renew. I tried, updating the driver which is: Marvell Yukon 88E8038 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller. That did nothing. I tried to reset the winsock, that did nothing. I tried disabling and enabling and uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, still nothing. I shut off the Microsoft live one care firewall, that did nothing. I downloaded a Yukon monitor tool, and it shows the cable and card to be working properly. There are no IRQ conflicts. The wireless card works fine and I’m using the internet fine. I tried the basics as well. Different cable, reset the router. Not a router issue, bc there are 4 other computers on the router wired, and they are fine. Please help. ”
I think it’s a hardware problem from the motherboard since the power is all funky anyways. However, the ethernet card was working fine before the reinstall.

hi iam using dell lattitude d600 model.i have a problem that my lan card network adapter automatically hides and i have no any network connection.
when i go to device manager there it shows networks adapters heading but there are no any drivers for it,when i click on view and show hidden devices it shows the drivers as”broadcom 570x Gigabit integrated controller-Package sheduler miniport”,when i right click on this and go into properties this shows “This device is working properly”.But network connection icon is neither present in taskbar nor in the newtork places–network connections.
what should i do,plz help me to get out of this trouble..
i have tried all the way through troubleshoot,through windows help but found all useless.
