Troubles With My Mic On Dell Laptop Inspiron 1521 Any Suggestions Would Be Nice I Can’t Seem To Figure It Out.?
Hi I have a dell Inspiron 1521 I had cleaned out my computer and started fresh with the operating cd. I have a mic that was working before but now that I am starting fresh again after booting the operating cd the mic does not seem to be picking up my voice. Please any and all suggestions would be nice. Tried a bunch of things but maybe theres something I am missing out on like for example I tried downloading sigmatel driver and it tells me “there are no files to download please go to drivers and downloads to select files” where do I go for this. Also I had tried talking with a friend on mic and he could hear the disc drive open but nothing else. Is there a reason for that? Being able to hear noises that the pc makes but nothing else :S? He heard it once though so not to sure about anything furthur than that.
Thanks, Tom

I’m joining you in being confused. You should be able to first enter the resource CD into your drive and load all the appropriate drivers. Next ensure the mic is good on another system.
plug it fully into the mic jack.
Now go the control panel>sounds>enable the microphone and adjust the record level. It may be as simple as unchecking the mute box on the microphone (default setting from Dell)

Did you check your Windows recording settings? If there are multiple input devices, the mic might not be the default device after a fresh install.
Also check the recording levels for the mic as they could also be set to zero.

Double check the recording option and the device itself. Some Dell laptops have a mic built-in, next to the webcam.
