Using 22 Inch External Monitor With A Laptop?

Laptop-HP DV9000 with Nvidia 8600 MGS
Trying to use the external Monitor, but a portion of the right side of the screen is missing. When I close the notebook and it switches over to my external monitor.
All drivers are updated.
Ive tried everything in the display properties, and in the Nvidia Control Panel.

    Go into your display properties and have the default monitor set up to the Spectre.
