What’s Wrong With My Hp Tc1100c Laptop (which Is Running Vista)?

the images on my screen should look like this:

http://cache.techie-buzz.com/images/stories/MakeWindowsXPlooklikeWindowsVista_226C/Windows_Vista_Logon_Screen_by_danskiblendoodle.jpg

but they instead look like this:

the problem is not with the screen, as I have tried connecting the laptop to an external moniter with the same problems.
very occasionally the machine will load up in proper resolution and definition
have i fried my graphics processors?
or am i missing drivers/software?
or do i need to update my copy of vista?
thanx

If you had the standard VGA drivers, instead of the specific ones for that chipset, it would NOT look like that.
That video artifacting could be caused by a bad GPU, or bad RAM, especially since you see it on an external monitor. So check the connection on your Ram (remove and reseat), download memtest86 from http://www.memtest86.com and make the diagnostic disc from the ISO, and use it to test your Ram. Clean your cooling fan and cooling channel from both directions (exhaust and intake) and if it still shows artifacts, then look at possible software causes. Start with a factory restore.
    end of line

could be problem with graphic driver gone bananas
try loading win in “safe mode” by hitting F8 key at startup, AFTER computer makes the Beep and laptop logo disappears, chose safe mode and press enter
if loads ok then it’s the graphic driver software for the graphic card to be repaired, or the resolution settings.. (did you fiddle with resolution settings?)
in any case if that works reboot with recovery cd and run a repair

ya I first though would have been the screen, but you tried that so…
Try booting off the windows disk, or maybe get a Ubunutu linux cd so you can test to see if it is a fault of the OS. Assuming it looks fine while booting from the cd reinstall windows. If it still looks messed up then its hardware and you will have to get it repaired (could be expensive depending on the age/parts needed)

I had a problem that showed almost identical symptoms on an older computer of mine. The problem was the motherboard.
However, I reccomend you take it to a repair shop or a service center to be diagnosed, it could be a different, more benign problem.
    Good luck with this.

    Jams.
It is definitely a GPU problem thats for sure. Messing about with drivers, reinstalling OS and all the rest will not offer any pernament solution I don’t think.
