Why Cant I Install Xp On My Laptop?
It is a vista running laptop.
i think HP has the drivers i need.
The model is hp pavillion dv6871us
What can i do to downgrade to xp?
It loads from the cd and when i have my USB in my laptop it recognizes it as a hardrive with a partition but if i take out my USB and restart my laptop and do the same stuff it says no hardrive make sure it is properly connected

Just go to the link provided, it’s by Computer World and will give the exact instructions to downgrade to XP, and also, I’m going to assume you have Vista.
It could be your boot-order needing changing
Start up your computer and enter the bios menu (generally it’s accessed by pressing F2, do it a few times to make sure)
Find the boot order and set the CD drive as the first boot device, followed by hardrive as the second device. (Remember to change this when you are done)
Save your changes and exit and see if it works.
Hope this helps.
Greg.
Edit: Sorry I misread the original question, it is a very odd problem you have then, Try using another harddrive in the computer to see if it’s the HD that is the problem
If it is, it might be worth it to get a new one and do a fresh installation?
This package contains a Video driver update for Windows XP and Windows 2000. This package will (by default) load the driver into the HP/Drivers/wxp/update/video/Intel subdirectory, and open a read me file containing installation information. Several issues are fixed as described below.
it probably does not work or you pluged it somewhere else.
